Comfort Dog Ministry

Rosie Comfort Dog was a part of Atonement from July 2014 to 2024 — almost 10 years!

During that time, Comfort Dog Ministry Team members went on 2,400 visits to schools, churches, assisted living & memory care places, veteran events and other special places.

They have shared the mercy, compassion, presence of Jesus and prayed (when possible) with over 30,000 people! Wow! Praise God!

Rosie passed away late in 2024. She is greatly missed!

However, Atonement as applied for another Comfort Dog and is waiting for new Golden to be trained and assigned to us! We should receive our new comfort dog sometime in 2026.

Donations to the Comfort Dog Ministry pay for food, medical supplies and vet bills as well as general supplies.

They also pay for travel outside the area when called to bring comfort to folks after a tragedy or to attend training sessions and conferences.

Donations made during our comfort dog vacancy will go only to supply the needs of our new canine ministry partner.

K-9 Comfort Dog Team

It takes a lot to operate a comfort dog ministry! From caregivers, handlers, communications, to social media, it takes a full team to care for a dog, home it, feed it, care for it, transport it, handle it, and communicate the ministry activities of a our comfort dog. Our team is made up of members of Atonement Lutheran, members of another Lutheran congregation (Beautiful Savior), and even someone from a local school (Winterset Elementary).
